Jannah, in Islam, is a place created by Allah Almighty for the believers. It contains blessings that no eye has ever seen, no ear has ever heard, and no human heart has ever imagined. Any example given to describe it is only for explanation, as there is no comparison between the highest things in this world and the blessings of Paradise.
If a woman from Paradise were to look down at the earth, the space between the earth and the heavens would be filled with light and fragrance, and the light of the sun and moon would fade in comparison. Her scarf alone would be better than the entire world and all it contains.
The Splendor of a Hoor in Paradise
In one narration, it is mentioned that if a Hoor (a beautiful woman of Paradise) were to reveal her hand between the heavens and the earth, her beauty would cause chaos among the creation. If she revealed her scarf, her beauty would outshine the sun, just as the sun outshines a lamp.
If even a nail’s worth of Paradise were to be revealed in this world, the entire heavens and earth would be adorned by it. If a bracelet of a Paradise dweller were to be revealed, it would outshine the sun, just as the sun outshines the stars. The smallest space in Paradise, even one where trash could be placed, is better than the entire world and all it contains.
The Vastness of Jannah/Paradise
The vastness of Paradise is known only to Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him). In general, it is described as having levels, and the distance between each level is like the distance between the heavens and the earth. As for the exact distance of each level, there is no specific narration, but one hadith in Tirmidhi states: “If the entire world were to gather in one level of Paradise, it would still be spacious for all.”
In Paradise, there is a tree whose shade is so vast that a rider on a fast horse would take a hundred years to cross it.

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Indeed, in Paradise, there is a tree under whose shade a rider would travel for a hundred years and still not cross it.”In another narration, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Sahih Muslim, Book of Paradise, Chapter: Indeed, in Paradise, there is a tree…, Hadith 2827-2828, p. 1517
“Indeed, in Paradise, there is a tree under which a swift, well-trained horseman would travel for a hundred years and still not pass beyond it.”
The gates of Paradise are so wide that the distance from one side to the other is equivalent to seventy years of travel on a fast horse.
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Indeed, Paradise has eight gates, and the distance between any two of its gates is a journey of seventy years for a rider.”
Al-Musnad by Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Hadith of Abu Ruzayn Al-Uqayli, Hadith: 16206, Vol. 5, p. 475
In another narration, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“The distance between each of the two door panels of the gates of Paradise is a journey of seventy years.”
Hilyat Al-Awliya, Hadith: 8371, Vol. 6, p. 221

Yet, the number of people entering will be so great that they will be shoulder to shoulder, and the gates will creak due to the crowd.
The Palaces and Rivers of Jannah in Islam
In Paradise, there are palaces made of various precious stones, so transparent that the inside can be seen from the outside and vice versa.
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also said:
At-Targhib wa At-Tarhib, Book on the Description of Paradise and Hell, Chapter on the Ranks of Paradise and its Chambers, Hadith: 27, Vol. 4, p. 281
“Indeed, in Paradise, there are chambers made of various types of precious jewels. Their interior can be seen from the outside, and their exterior can be seen from the inside.”
The walls of Paradise are built with bricks of gold and silver, and the mortar is made of musk.
“The walls of Paradise are built with bricks of gold and bricks of silver, and its mortar is musk.”
Majma’ Az-Zawa’id, Book on the People of Paradise, Chapter on the Construction and Description of Paradise, Hadith: 18642, Vol. 10, p. 732

The ground is covered with saffron; instead of pebbles, there are pearls and rubies. In one narration, it is mentioned that the bricks of Paradise are made of white pearls, red rubies, and green emeralds, with musk as the mortar. The grass is made of saffron, and the pebbles are pearls.
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also said:
Sunan Ad-Darimi, Book of Heart-Softening Narrations, Chapter on the Construction of Paradise, Hadith: 2821, Vol. 2, p. 429
“A brick of gold and a brick of silver, its mortar is pure musk, its pebbles are rubies and pearls, and its soil is saffron.”
Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Book on the Description of Paradise, Chapter on the Description of Paradise and its Bliss, Hadith: 2534, Vol. 4, p. 236
In Paradise, there are four rivers: one of water, one of milk, one of honey, and one of wine. Streams branch out from these rivers, flowing into every home.
Quran: Parah: 26, Surah: 47, Verse No: 15
“therein are such rivers of water which shall never be polluted, and rivers of milk the taste of which did not change, and rivers of wine delicious to drink, and rivers of refined honey”
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Al-Musnad by Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal, Hadith: 20072, Vol. 7, p. 242
“In Paradise, there is an ocean of milk, an ocean of water, an ocean of honey, and an ocean of wine. From them, rivers branch out afterward.”
These streams do not flow underground but above the ground. The banks of these streams are made of pearls and rubies, and the ground is pure musk. The wine of Paradise is not like the wine of this world, which has a foul smell and bitterness and causes intoxication.
وَأَنْهَـٰرٌۭ مِّنْ خَمْرٍۢ لَّذَّةٍۢ لِّلشَّـٰرِبِينَ
“{And rivers of wine, delicious to those who drink.}” (Quran: Surah Muhammad: Verse:15)In Tafsir Ibn Kathir (Vol. 7, p. 289), under this verse, it is explained:
“Meaning, it is not unpleasant in taste or smell like the wine of this world. Rather, it is pleasing in appearance, taste, fragrance, and effect.”
The wine of Paradise is pure and free from all such impurities.
The Food and Drink of Paradise
The inhabitants of Paradise will be provided with the most delicious food and drink. Whatever they desire will immediately appear before them. If they see a bird and wish to eat its meat, it will instantly be served to them roasted. If they desire water or any other drink, goblets will appear in their hands, containing exactly the amount they wish to drink—not a drop more or less. After drinking, the goblets will return to their place on their own.
There will be no impurity, dirt, excrement, urine, saliva, mucus, earwax, or body filth in Paradise. Instead, the inhabitants will experience pleasant, fragrant burps and sweat that emit the fragrance of musk. All food will be completely digested, and the burps and sweat will carry the scent of musk.
Hazrat Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: “The people of Paradise will eat and drink therein, but they will not spit, urinate, defecate, or blow their noses.”
Sahih Muslim, Book of Paradise and Its Description, Chapter on the Description of Paradise, Hadith: 2835, p. 1520
The Companions asked, “What will happen to the food?”
He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied, “It will be digested as a belch and sweat, which will have the fragrance of musk.”
Each person will have the strength of a hundred men in eating, drinking, and intimacy. Their tongues will continuously recite the glorification and praise of Allah, both intentionally and unintentionally, like breathing.
The Servants and Attendants of Paradise
At the head of each person in Paradise, there will be a thousand servants standing ready to serve. Each servant will hold a silver tray in one hand and a golden tray in the other, filled with various blessings. No matter how much they eat, the pleasure will not diminish but will increase. Every morsel will contain seventy different flavors, each distinct and delightful, without one flavor overpowering another.
The clothing of the inhabitants of Paradise will never wear out, and their youth will never fade.
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Sahih Muslim, Book of Paradise and Its Description, Chapter on the Eternal Bliss of Its People, Hadith: 2836, p. 1521
“Whoever enters Paradise will live in bliss and never experience hardship. Their clothes will never wear out, and their youth will never fade.”
The first group to enter Paradise will have faces as bright as the full moon on the fourteenth night, and the second group will have faces as bright as the brightest stars. The inhabitants of Paradise will be united in heart, with no hatred or discord among them.
Each man will be given at least two wives from the Hoor Ain, who will be so beautiful that even if they wear seventy layers of clothing, the marrow of their shins will be visible through their flesh, like red wine seen through a clear glass. This is because Allah has compared them to rubies; if a thread were passed through a ruby, it would be visible from the outside.
The Beauty and Splendor of Paradise
A man will see his face in his wife’s cheek more clearly than in a mirror. The lowest pearl in Paradise will be so bright that it will illuminate the space between the East and the West. In one narration, it is mentioned that if a man places his hand between the shoulders of his wife, he will see his hand through her chest, clothes, skin, and flesh. If the clothing of Paradise were to be worn in this world, anyone who saw it would faint, and people would not be able to bear its sight. When a man approaches his wife, he will find her pure and untouched every time, yet neither will experience any discomfort.
If a Hoor spits into the ocean, the sweetness of her saliva would turn the entire ocean into honey-like sweetness. In another narration, it is mentioned that if a woman of Paradise spits into seven oceans, they would become sweeter than honey.
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said (in a mawquf narration):
At-Targhib wa At-Tarhib, Book on the Description of Paradise and Hell, Chapter on the Description of the Women of Paradise, Hadith: 99, Vol. 4, p. 299
“If a woman from the women of Paradise were to spit into seven seas, those seas would become sweeter than honey.”
When a person enters Paradise, two Hoors will sing beautifully at his head and feet, but their singing will not be like the songs of this world. Instead, they will sing praises of Allah in voices so beautiful that no creation has ever heard the like. They will sing:
“We are eternal, we will never die. We are at peace, we will never suffer. We are content, we will never be displeased. Blessed is the one who belongs to us, and we belong to him.”
The Physical Attributes of the Inhabitants of Paradise
The inhabitants of Paradise will have no body hair except on their heads, eyebrows, and eyelashes. They will be beardless, with blue eyes, and will be thirty years old, never aging beyond that. The lowest-ranking person in Paradise will have 80 thousand servants and 72 beautiful wives, and they will be given crowns adorned with pearls, the smallest of which will illuminate the space between the East and the West.
Abu Sa’id Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Book on the Description of Paradise, Chapter on the Honor Given to the Lowest Ranked Person in Paradise, Hadith: 2571, Vol. 4, p. 254
“The lowest-ranked person in Paradise will have eighty thousand servants and seventy-two wives.”
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) also said:
“They will wear crowns, and the least of its pearls will illuminate the space between the east and the west.”
If a Muslim desires children, their conception, birth, and full maturity (up to thirty years of age) will occur in an instant.
The Eternal Nature of Paradise
There is no sleep in Paradise, as sleep is a form of death, and there is no death in Paradise. When the inhabitants of Paradise enter, each will be granted a rank according to their deeds, and there is no limit to Allah’s bounty. After the equivalent of one week in this world, they will be granted permission to behold their Lord.
The Throne of Allah will be revealed, and Allah will manifest Himself in one of the gardens of Paradise. Platforms of light, pearls, rubies, emeralds, gold, and silver will be set up for them. The lowest among them will sit on mounds of musk and camphor, yet none will feel inferior to another.

The vision of Allah will be as clear as seeing the sun and the full moon, and each person will see Him from their place without obstructing the view of others. Allah will address each person, reminding them of their deeds in the world. The person will respond, “O Lord, have You not forgiven me?” Allah will reply, “Yes, it is due to the vastness of My forgiveness that you have reached this rank.”
At that moment, a cloud will overshadow them, and a fragrance will rain down upon them, unlike anything they have ever experienced. Allah will say, “Go to what I have prepared for you of honor.” They will then enter a marketplace surrounded by angels, filled with things that no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no heart has ever imagined. They will take whatever they desire without buying or selling.
The Social Life in Paradise
The inhabitants of Paradise will meet one another, and the one of lower rank will see the one of higher rank and admire their clothing. Before any conversation takes place, the lower-ranking person will think, “My clothing is better than theirs.” This is because there is no grief or envy in Paradise.
They will then return to their homes, where their wives will welcome them and congratulate them, saying, “You have returned, and your beauty has increased since you left.” They will reply, “We have been in the presence of our Lord, and it is only fitting that we return in this state.”
If the inhabitants of Paradise wish to meet one another, their thrones will move to bring them together. In one narration, it is mentioned that they will be given the finest mounts and horses to ride wherever they wish. The lowest-ranking person in Paradise will have gardens, wives, blessings, servants, and thrones extending over a distance of a thousand years. The most honored among them in the sight of Allah will be the one who is granted the vision of Allah’s Noble Countenance every morning and evening.
The Ultimate Blessing: The Vision of Allah
When the inhabitants of Paradise enter, Allah will ask them, “Do you desire anything more that I should give you?” They will reply, “You have brightened our faces, admitted us to Paradise, and saved us from Hell. What more could we desire?” At that moment, the veil will be lifted, and they will behold their Lord. Nothing will be more beloved to them than the vision of Allah.
O Allah, grant us the blessing of seeing Your Noble Face by the honor of Your beloved, the Most Kind and Merciful (peace and blessings be upon him). Ameen!
