The Day of Judgment in Islam or the Day of Resurrection (Yawm al-Qiyamah) in Islam marks the end of the world, when all souls will be resurrected and judged by Allah, determining their eternal fate—Paradise or Hell—through profound trials and signs foretold in Islamic teachings.
The Day of Judgment in Islam
Indeed, the heavens, the earth, humans, jinn, and angels will all one day perish, and only Allah Almighty will remain eternal.
كُلُّ مَنْ عَلَيْهَا فَانٍۢ وَيَبْقَىٰ وَجْهُ رَبِّكَ ذُو ٱلْجَلَـٰلِ وَٱلْإِكْرَامِ
Parah: 27, Surah: 55, Verse No: 26-27
(Everything on the Earth is to perish. And remains (eternally) the Being of your Lord, the Most Majestic and the Most Honourable.
Before the world comes to an end, several signs will appear:
- Three Major Sinkings: There will be three great land sinkings: one in the east, one in the west, and one in the Arabian Peninsula.
- Knowledge Will Be Removed: Scholars will be taken away, not that they will forget knowledge, but scholars themselves will pass away. Ignorance will spread.
The hadith narrated by Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) states:
“I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: ‘Indeed, Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people, but He takes away knowledge by taking away the scholars. When no scholar remains, people will take ignorant leaders. They will be asked, and they will issue verdicts without knowledge. Thus, they will go astray and lead others astray.’“
Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of Knowledge, Chapter: How Knowledge Will Be Taken Away, Hadith: 100, Vol. 1, Pg. 54
- Rampant Immorality: Adultery will increase to the extent that people will engage in it openly and shamelessly, like animals. Respect for elders or young ones will vanish.
- Men Will Be Fewer, and Women Will Be More: Women will outnumber men to such an extent that one man will be responsible for fifty women.
- False Prophets: Apart from the great Dajjal (Antichrist), many other false claimants of prophethood will emerge, even though prophethood has been sealed. Some, like Musaylimah al-Kadhdhab, Tulayhah bin Khuwailid, Aswad al-Ansi, and Sajah (who later accepted Islam), Mirza Ghulam Ahmad Qadiani have already appeared. Others will also emerge.
- Abundance of Wealth: Wealth will become plentiful, and the Euphrates River will reveal its treasures, which will be mountains of gold.

- Transformation of Arabia: The Arabian Peninsula will turn into fertile land with greenery, rivers, and gardens.

- Difficulties in Practicing Faith: Remaining steadfast in religion will become as difficult as holding a burning ember in one’s hand. People will wish for death, longing to be buried in graves due to overwhelming trials.
- Time Will Accelerate: Time will pass swiftly; a year will feel like a month, a month like a week, a week like a day, and a day like the fleeting moment of a burning flame.
- Reluctance to Give Zakat: Paying Zakat will feel burdensome, and people will consider it a penalty.
- Superficial Religious Learning: People will acquire religious knowledge, but not for the sake of religion.
- Disobedience to Parents: Men will obey their wives while disobeying their parents, fostering ties with friends while severing them with their fathers.
- Noise in Mosques: People will raise their voices in mosques.
- Increase in Music and Immorality: Music and immoral behavior will become rampant.
- Cursing the Predecessors: People will curse and malign their predecessors.
- Animals Speaking: Wild animals will speak to humans. Whips, shoe straps, and even a person’s thighs will inform them of events occurring in their absence.
- “Lowly people, who did not even have clothes to cover their bodies or shoes for their feet, will take pride in living in grand palaces.”
The Emergence of Dajjal (Antichrist):
Dajjal (Antichrist) will appear, traveling across the entire earth except for the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. His forty days on earth will differ in duration: the first day will feel like a year, the second like a month, the third like a week, and the remaining days like ordinary days. His movement will be rapid, akin to a cloud driven by wind.
He will bring a paradise and a hell with him, naming them “heaven” and “hell.” However, his paradise will be a place of torment, and his hell will be a place of peace. He will claim divinity, and those who believe in him will be taken to his “paradise,” while those who reject him will be thrown into his “hell.”
He will perform illusions such as reviving the dead, commanding the earth to produce vegetation, and summoning rain from the sky. Animals of those who follow him will flourish, but his actions will merely be magical tricks and the works of devils.
When Dajjal (Antichrist) tries to enter the holy cities, angels will turn him away. However, Medina will experience three earthquakes, forcing hypocrites and disbelievers who pretended to be Muslims to flee, ultimately falling into Dajjal’s trap.

Dajjal’s followers will include armies of Jews. His forehead will bear the inscription “K-F-R” (Kafir, meaning disbeliever), which every Muslim will be able to read, but non-believers will not see it.
The Descent of Prophet Isa or Jesus, (Peace Be Upon Him):
When Dajjal reaches Syria, Prophet Isa (peace be upon him) will descend from the heavens at the eastern minaret of the Grand Mosque in Damascus at dawn. The call for Fajr prayer will have already been made. Prophet Isa will ask Imam Mahdi to lead the prayer, and Imam Mahdi will oblige.
Dajjal will begin to melt upon coming into contact with the fragrance of the breath of Prophet Isa, which will range as far as the eye can see. He will attempt to flee, but Prophet Isa will chase him and kill him with a spear. Dajjal will then meet his end in hellfire.
Thus, this phase of trials will conclude with the victory of truth and the establishment of justice.
The Descent of Prophet Isa or Jesus (Peace Be Upon Him):
A brief account of Prophet Isa’s descent has already been mentioned. During his time on Earth:
- Wealth will become so abundant that if one offers it to another, they will refuse to accept it.
- Hatred, enmity, and jealousy will completely vanish.
- Prophet Isa (peace be upon him) will break the cross and kill pigs.
- All the People of the Book (Jews and Christians) who survive will believe in him.
- The entire world will embrace Islam as the sole religion and the creed of Ahl al-Sunnah (Sunni Islam) will prevail.
- Children will play with snakes without harm, and lions and goats will graze together peacefully.
Prophet Isa (Peace Be Upon Him) will reside on earth for forty years. During this time, he will marry and have children. After his passing, he will be buried in the sacred grave of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah.
The Appearance of Imam Mahdi (May Allah Be Pleased with Him):
The brief account of Imam Mahdi’s appearance is as follows:
When disbelief and oppression dominate the world, all the Abdal (spiritually elite saints) and the Awliya (friends of Allah) will gather and migrate to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. At that time, these two cities will remain the only bastions of Islam, while the rest of the earth will become dominated by disbelief/kufr.
In Ramadan, the Abdal will be engaged in the circumambulation of the Kaaba. Imam Mahdi will also be present there, though initially, he will remain unrecognized. The Awliya (Saints) will recognize him and request him to accept their allegiance (bay’at). Initially, he will refuse. Suddenly, a voice from the unseen will proclaim:
“هذَا خَلِيفَةُ اللهِ الْمَهْدِيُّ فَاسْمَعُوا لَهُ وَأَطِيعُوهُ”
(“This is the Caliph of Allah, Al-Mahdi; listen to him and obey him.”)
At this declaration, all people present will pledge allegiance to his blessed hands. Imam Mahdi will then lead this group of believers and take them to Syria.
Gog and Magog in Islam

Once Dajjal is killed, Allah will command Prophet Isa (peace be upon him) to lead the believers to Mount Tur, as a new group of people named Gog and Magog (Ya’juj and Ma’juj). These people will be so powerful and overwhelming that no one can fight or resist them. Prophet Isa and Imam Mahdi will safeguard the Muslims during this period. More Details of Gog and Magog (Yajuj and Majuj) coming up in the next post.
